Loretto Sister Susan Howard, an educator, dies at 89

RecordLogo-FLoretto Sister Susan Howard, formerly Sister William  Mary died Nov. 18 at the Loretto Motherhouse infirmary in Nerinx, Ky. She was 89 and in her 70th year of religious life.

Sister Howard, a native of  Kentucky, served as an educator for more than 40 years in Kentucky, Alabama, California, Colorado, Illinois, Missouri and Texas.

In Kentucky, Sister Howard served as a substitute teacher in the Archdiocese of Louisville from 1987 to 1995. She moved to the Loretto Motherhouse infirmary in 1995 where she carried out a ministry of prayer and presence until her death.

Sister Howard is survived by her sister Jeanne Buckler of Lebanon, Ky.

A wake will take place today, Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Loretto Motherhouse.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Nov. 22 at the Church of the Seven Dolors on the grounds of the Loretto Motherhouse in Nerinx, Ky.
