Local parishioner wins at fair for photo of pope

Pope-FairPhotoDara Cross won a fourth place ribbon for this photo depicting Pope Francis in the 2017 Kentucky State Fair. The entry placed in the “color photo – people” category under the accomplished photography division.

Cross captured this image in St. Peter’s Square in 2015 during a trip to Rome with his wife, Jolene Cross, a member of St. Albert the Great Church. “I actually was standing on a chair watching the marquee of him in his pope mobile,” Cross said of the moments before he took the photo. “It stopped and the people just parted. I was able to take this shot. It was something. I was probably 70 feet away.” (Record Photo by Marnie McAllister)
