Little Sisters of the Poor have chosen a new superior general

Sister María del Monte Auxiliadora was elected superior general of the Little Sisters of the Poor Sept. 8.

Mother María, who is a native of Seville, Spain, received her formation at the Little Sisters of the Poor Motherhouse, La Tour Saint Joseph in Brittany, France, where she made her profession in 1982.

Mother María served in a variety of roles, including mistress of novices in the Spanish novitiate and provincial superior in Spain, according to a statement from the congregation.

She succeeds Mother Celine de la Visitation, who served as superior general from 1996-2015.
