My Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Greetings in the Lord! On the weekend of May 23-24, parishes will conduct the annual Catholic World Mission Collection. This collection supports the Catholic Home Missions and international Pontifical Mission Societies, such as the Propagation of the Faith. These organizations fund the work of more than 1,000 mission dioceses in the United States and around the world.
The Mission Collection energizes the Church’s missionary work, providing monetary help for pastoral services and evangelizing programs to strengthen the Catholic Church. These funds assist dioceses in the United States, Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, the Middle East, and remote regions of Latin America. Your gift will support the education of seminarians, religious novices, and lay catechists; the work to build churches; communication and transportation needs; disaster and emergency relief; and the Church’s ministry to children.
As we celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost, let us reflect on the message from Jesus to his apostles, “As the Father has sent me, so I send you” (John 20:21). We are called to be missionary disciples, to share the Good News of Jesus and to support the mission of the Church. By supporting the Catholic World Mission Collection, we are doing our part to bring the love of God to every corner of the world.
Thank you for your generosity and your prayers. Please know that I remain,
Sincerely in the Lord,
Most Reverend Shelton J. Fabre
Archbishop of Louisville
