The icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa will stop in its United States tour at St. Aloysius Church in Pewee Valley, Ky., on May 5. The tour is sponsored by Human Life International (HLI).
All people are invited to attend Mass at 8:15 a.m. and 7 p.m. followed by veneration, the rosary, a litany for the unborn and an overnight vigil. An opportunity for reconciliation also will be available. Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz will celebrate the 8:15 a.m. Mass.
The icon coming to St. Aloysius, known as “The Black Madonna,” is a replica of an icon that is housed in Poland. It is entrusted to the defense of life, according to a press release from HLI.
The icon “is reputed to have been ‘written’ on Mary’s table top from her house in Nazareth by Luke the Evangelist,” the release said. “She has been credited with numerous miracles and healings — both of a spiritual and physical nature.”
