Hunger walk and awareness dinner scheduled

The 39th Hunger 5K Walk/Run will be held Sept. 25 at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer Park, 3000 Freys Hill Road. The Family Fun Fest will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The 5K run begins at 2 p.m. and the 5K walk begins at 2:30 p.m. Funds raised at the walk will benefit Dare to Care and the World Food Program. For more information, visit thehungerwalk.org.

Fern Creek/Highview United Ministry will hold its 18th annual James O. Leach Hunger Awareness Dinner on Sept. 24 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at St. Albans Episcopal Church, 9004 Beulah Church Road.

Member churches, including St. Bernard Church, will provide salad, homemade soups, bread, cookies and a drink. The cost of the dinner is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Participants are asked to bring a canned protein item for the Fern Creek/Highview Individual and Family Assistance Center (IFAC).

During the dinner, speakers will address the “increasing level of hunger in our local area,” a news release from the ministry said. For more information about the dinner contact the Rev. Ron Loughry at 762-9608.
