Guadalupe feast day celebrations set

Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz will celebrate the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Dec. 11 and 12 at two locations.

One service will begin at 11 p.m. Dec. 11 at Holy Name Church, 2914 S. Third St. Mass will be followed by a Mañanitas and a reception.

The second celebration will take place Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. (central time) at Christ the King Church in Tompkinsville, Ky. Mass will be followed by a play and reception.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, also known as the Virgin of Guadalupe, is the patroness of the Americas. Her feast day is Dec. 12.

The Blessed Mother appeared to St. Juan Diego, an indigenous man in Mexico in 1531. She asked him to build a shrine, which still stands today. Pope Francis visited the shrine during his 2016 visit to Mexico.

Other parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Louisville planning celebrations include:

  • Our Lady of Mercy Church in Hodgenville, Ky. — Mass will be celebrated Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.
  • St. Rita Church, 8709 Preston Highway -— Mass will be at midnight, 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Dec. 12.
  • St. Bartholomew Church, 2042 Buechel Band Road — Mañanitas will start at 5 a.m. and Mass will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 12.
  • St. Edward Church, 9602 Sue Helen Drive — Mañanitas will be Dec. 12 at 5:30 a.m. followed by a reception. Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m.
  • St. Andrew Academy, 7724 Columbine Dr. — Mañanitas will begin at 5 a.m. Dec. 12. Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. followed by a play and reception.
  • Epiphany Church, 914 Old Harrods Creek Road — Mañanitas will be at 5:30 a.m. Dec. 12 and followed by Mass.
  • Immaculate Conception Church in La Grange, Ky., will celebrate Mass at 6 p.m. Dec. 12.
  • St. James Church in Elizabethtown, Ky. — Mass will begin at 10 p.m. Dec. 11.
  • St. Dominic Church in Springfield, Ky. — A procession with Danzantes will begin at 8 p.m. Dec. 11 followed by an 8:30 p.m. rosary, a 9 p.m. Mass and a 10 p.m. reception.
  • St. Helen Church in Glasgow, Ky. — Mañanitas with a Mariachi band will take place Dec. 12 from midnight to 2 a.m. (central time). Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m. followed by a reception.
  • Emmanuel Church in Albany, Ky. -— Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m. Dec. 12.
  • St. Bernard Church in Liberty, Ky. — Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Dec. 12.
  • Annunciation Church in Shelbyville, Ky. -— Mañanitas will start Dec. 12 at 5:30 a.m. and Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m.
