Five educators retire after 40+ years

Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Louisville have received a combined 550 years of service given by 17 long-time educators who are retiring this year.

Among those retiring are five women who have served for four or more decades as Catholic educators.

Another five women are retiring after dedicating more than 30 years to Catholic education.

Susan Jones, who most recently served as the assistant principal of Holy Spirit School, served for a total of 42 years in Catholic schools. 

Melinda Cecil, a computer education teacher at St. Athanasius School, also retired after 42 years.

They are the longest-serving Catholic school educators retiring this year, according to statistics provided by the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Catholic Schools.

Following is a list of other teachers, principals and assistant principals retiring after 20 or more years. The list includes retirements reported to the Office of Catholic Schools as of June 1.

Kathryn Cornett, who served as teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes School, retired after 40 years of service in Catholic education.

Peggy Theiss, a physical education teacher, retired from Our Lady of Lourdes after 40 years.

Anne Bainbridge, a librarian at St. Athanasius School, retired after 40 years.

Cindy Chevalier, a first-grade teacher at St. Edward School, retired after more than 39 years.

Carolyn Veigl, a music teacher at Sacred Heart Model School, retired after 38 years.

Pam Huelsman, principal of St. Gabriel School, retired after 34 years.

Paula Wood, technology teacher at St. Michael School, retired after 34 years

Kathy Wallace, a religion teacher at St. Leonard School, retired after 33 years of service.

Margie Belcher, a second-grade teacher at St. James  School in Elizabethtown, Ky., retired after 27 years.

Karen Reynolds, a preschool teacher at St. Stephen Martyr, retired after 27 years.

Charlotte Colyer, a teacher at St. Bernard School, retired after more than 24 years.

Debbie Green, a fifth-grade teacher at St. Nicholas Academy, retired after 24 years.

Janice Straw, math teacher at St. James School in Louisville, retired after 23 years.

Lisa Stiff, a middle school teacher at St. Margaret Mary School retired after 22 years.

Kevin Johnson, a computer and technology teacher at Holy Trinity School, retired after 20 years.
