Father Larkin, who taught at DeSales High, dies at 82

Carmelite Father Bartholomew (Richard Francis) Larkin, a former teacher at DeSales High School, died Jan. 16 in Nokomis, Fla. He was 82.

He was a native of Salem, Mass., and was ordained a Carmelite priest in 1958.

In addition to teaching at DeSales, Father Larkin served as dean of students and prior of the Carmelite community there during his 10-year stay. He also taught in Massachusetts and served in parish work for 36 years in Illinois, New Jersey, Ontario, Canada, Florida and Virginia. He also served as assistant pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Survivors include a brother, William Larkin of Beverly, Mass.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 19 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Grove City, Fla. Burial was in Venice, Fla., Memorial Gardens.
