Dominican Sister of Peace receives international award

Dominican Sister of Peace Claire McGowan was awarded the 2015 Friend of Community Development award from the Community Development Society, an international organization of educators. The award recognizes “her exemplary work in environmental sustainability, citizen participation, high visibility and advancing the community development field,” a news release from the organization said.

Sister McGowan speaks and writes on the local, national and international level on the topic of building sustainable communities. She is the founder and executive director of New Pioneers for a Sustainable Future, an organization created “to promote sustainable thinking and development in order to ensure a healthy, safe and productive future for all,” the release said.
