Dominican Sister Nancy Hanna, a librarian, dies

Adrian Dominican Sister Nancy Hanna, formerly Sister Robert Francis, died Aug. 27 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich. She was 90 years old and in her 68th year of religious life.

Sister Hanna, a native of Charleston, W.Va., served for nearly five decades in education in Illinois, Peru, the Dominican Republic and Kentucky.

In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she ministered as a librarian for more than three decades.

From 1987 to 1995, she served as a librarian at St. Catharine College in St. Catharine, Ky. Then she served at the Washington County Public Library in Springfield, Ky., from 1997 to 2011.

In 2011, she became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian.

Sister Hanna is survived by her cousins and her Dominican community.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today, Sept. 5, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine Chapel in Adrian. The rite of committal will be in the congregation’s cemetery in Adrian.
