Dominican Brother Peter Osbourne, a youth counselor and caregiver, dies

Br.-Peter-OP-2016wDominican Brother Louis Bertrand “Peter” Osbourne died June 16 at Nazareth Home in Louisville. He was 87 and in his 62nd year of religious life.

Brother Osbourne, a native of Washington County, Ky., was a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and served in Washington, D.C., New York, Ohio and Kentucky.

In Kentucky, Brother Osbourne served at St. Rose Priory in Springfield, Ky., intermittently for more than 30 years, including from 1955 to 1966 when he served as a coach, youth counselor and school bus driver, and from 1997 to 2016, when he helped care for elderly friars and assisted with religious education at the church.

Brother Osbourne also served as a tour guide for the priory and as an EMT for the community.

He is survived by his sisters, Frances Peterson (Henry) of Loretto, Ky., and Jo Ann Smith (Charles Owen) of Lebanon, Ky.; brothers, Sidney Osbourne (Ruth Ann) of Springfield and William Osbourne (Terri) of Bardstown, Ky., and nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. June 22 at St. Rose. Burial will be in St. Rose Priory Cemetery.

Visitation will begin on June 21 at 3 p.m. at St. Rose. A prayer service will follow at 7 p.m. Visitation will also precede the Funeral Mass June 22, beginning at 8 a.m.
