DeSales to host annual ‘Shack Foundation’ golf scramble

DeSales High School will hold its annual “Shack Foundation Golf Scramble” on May 19 at Iroquois Golf Course.

The event will begin with check-in at noon and a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The cost is $70, or $65 for those who’ve graduated since 2007. That fee includes cart, greens fee, refreshments, hot dogs at the turn and a barbecue dinner after the golf tournament.

The event is named for William I. “Shack” Shackleton, a DeSales student who lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track. He was an alumnus who shared his time, talent and treasure with DeSales and its students and he and several classmates started a scholarship fund in 1971 that is supported by the annual golf event.

Shackelton succumbed to lung cancer in 2002 at the age of 48.
