A ceremonial groundbreaking for DeSales High School’s new multi-sport athletic facility was held Nov. 10 on the school’s Kenwood Drive campus. Taking part in the ceremony were, from left, Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, student council president Scott Kaufman, DeSales High School president Doug Strothman and DeSales’ board chair Jess Metzmeier.

Construction on the sports complex is set to begin next week and the facility is expected to be completed by mid July. The complex is part of a larger initiative, titled “The Time is Now,” launched more than a year ago. The initiative has brought other changes to the campus, including a new biology lab.

The new sports complex will allow DeSales to have its first home football field in 60 years. The new facility will also allow the school to expand its physical education and intramural programs, school leaders said.
