Deacon Robert Kampschaefer, who served for 32 years, dies

Deacon Robert “Bob” Kampschaefer died May 1. He was 86.

Deacon Kampschaefer, a native of Louisville, was ordained in 1981 and served as a permanent deacon at the old St. Denis Church and at Mary Queen of Peace Church for 32 years.

As a deacon he traveled around the Archdiocese of Louisville to assist Archbishop Thomas C. Kelly with the sacrament of confirmation.

Deacon Kampschaefer was a veteran of the United States Navy. He retired from the Taystee Butternut Bread Company after 38 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Kampschaefer.

He is survived by daughters Karen Kampschaefer and Theresa Thomas (Larry), son Michael Kampschaefer (Leslie), four grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A private funeral service took place May 7. A celebration of life Mass and luncheon will take place at a later date.
