Deacon Paul Bissig, a deacon since 1987, dies

Deacon Paul Bissig died June 16 at Hosparus Health Inpatient Care Center in Louisville. He was 67 and had been a permanent deacon for the Archdiocese of Louisville for 30 years.

Deacon Bissig was ordained a deacon for the archdiocese in 1987. He served as a permanent deacon at the old St. Cecilia Church and at Good Shepherd Church for three decades. He retired from Porter Paints in 2012.

Deacon Bissig is survived by a daughter Maria Gagne, a sister Mary Alice Fortener, brothers William Bissig, George Bissig and Thomas Bissig and nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. June 20 at Good Shepherd followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be Jan 19 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at J.B. Ratterman & Sons, 2114 W. Market St., and June 20 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd.
