Deacon Lawrence Biven, a deacon for 35 years, dies

Deacon Lawrence “Larry” J. Biven, who served as a deacon for 35 years, died Nov. 1. He was 77.

Deacon Biven was ordained Aug. 25, 1984. He was assigned to the following parishes: St. Francis of Assisi, Ascension and St. Joseph churches. He also served at Nazareth Home.

Deacon Biven, who served in the United States Marine Corps, also worked as a truck driver for the Kroger Company for 30 years. During his retirement, he served as a driver for the Funeral Auto Company.

He was preceded in death by daughters Amy Beth, Mary Ann and Margaret Biven.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl McKnight Biven; daughter Elizabeth Biven; granddaughter Rita Beatrice Biven; sisters Jane Ballard, Sally Jackson and Christy Lewis and his aunt, Ursuline Sister Antonine Biven.

Visitation will take place Nov. 9 from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1960 Bardstown Road.

The Memorial Mass will follow the visitation at 11 a.m. Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz will be the main celebrant and Father William Fichteman will be the homilist.
