Deacon Cletus Ratterman, WW II vet, dies at age 94

Deacon Cletus Aloysius Ratterman, 94, died Jan. 11 at Nazareth Home.

Deacon Ratterman, a graduate of St. Xavier High School, served in the U.S. Navy in World War II in the Pacific and Europe, including serving in Normandy on D-Day.

He was a member of the Archdiocese of Louisville’s second diaconate class — ordained in 1977 — and served as a deacon at St. Stephen Martyr Church and Guardian Angels Church.

In his secular career, Deacon Ratterman was a former co-owner of Blanford Ratterman Funeral Home and served as CEO of St. Joseph Children’s Home from 1975 to 1984 and served as president of its board.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Saundra “Bimi” Mueller. He is survived by his sons Richard and Stuart; twin brother Clarence; nieces, nephews and cousins.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 14 at St. Stephen Martyr. Burial is Jan. 15, at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor.
