Couples celebrate sacrament of marriage

Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, above, greeted Susan and Doug Emery, who are celebrating 10 years of marriage this year, and their son Ryan, on Feb. 4. The archbishop celebrated a Mass of Thanksgiving that afternoon at St. Raphael Church for couples celebrating 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years of marriage in 2017.

Each couple who registered, 53 in all, received a certificate commemorating the occasion and renewed the promises they made at their wedding ceremonies. Archbishop Kurtz thanked the couples for their “willingness to sacrifice in love for each other and for your children.” He said, “The church and our society need the faithful witness of married life, I think, today more than ever before.”

A Mass for those celebrating milestone anniversaries of 30 years and beyond will be celebrated this fall.
