Holy Spirit Church to host
brass band Christmas concert
The Commonwealth Brass Band will hold its annual Christmas Concert at the Church of the Holy Spirit this year.
The church, at 3345 Lexington Road, will present the band at 7 p.m. Dec. 2. The 35-piece band is directed by Louisville Orchestra Principal Trumpet Jerome Amend.
They will present a program which includes a Christmas carol “sing-a-long” by everyone present. The event is free and is for people of all ages.
There will be free-will offering baskets available for those wanting to help offset the band’s expenses.

Region II Advent Penance Service
to be held at St. Lawrence Church
St. Lawrence Church, 1925 Lewiston Drive, will hold a Region II Advent Penance Service at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 8. In addition to music, a penance service usually involves an “examination of conscience and consideration of God’s mercy,” according to a book on Catholic services and ritual.
The services also involves opportunity for individual confession and absolution.

Louisville Chorus will hold
Christmas concerts at area parishes
The Louisville Chorus will celebrate its 75th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Season with a series of Christmas concerts at three area parishes.
The first will be at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at St. Mary Church, 415 E. Eighth St. in New Albany, Ind. It will feature as special guests the Holy Family
Children’s Choir and the Wall Street United Methodist Church Children’s Choir. Tickets are $20 for adults; $15 for seniors; and $5 for students, preschool through college.
The second concert, “Christmas at Immaculate Conception,” will be held at 4 p.m. Dec. 8 at Immaculate Conception Church in La Grange, Ky., and the third concert, “Christmas at St. Brigid,” will be held Dec. 14 at St. Brigid Church, 1520 Hepburn Ave.
At both the second and third concerts, special guests will be Julianna Horton on the organ and Melanie Powul on flute. Ticket prices are the same as those at the first concert.
The Louisville Chorus is under the direction of Daniel Spurlock.
St. Meinrad seminarians to present Advent lessons and carol service
Seminarians from St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in St. Meinrad, Ind., will present an Advent lesson and carol service at 7:45 p.m. central time Dec. 9 in the St. Meinrad Archabbey Church.
The service, titled “From Eden to Heaven: The Story of Salvation,” will tell the story of Christ through alternating Scripture readings and the singing of hymns and carols. The service is expected to last an hour and 15 minutes and is free and open to the public.

Program at Holy Spirit Church to capture real meaning of Christmas
Holy Spirit Church at 3345 Lexington Road, will begin a program called “In His Presence Before Your Presents” on the Friday after Thanksgiving. It will continue until Dec. 23.
The purpose of the program, according to a news release from the church, is to “help the community regain the true meaning of Christmas.”
Parishioners and others are asked to stop by the church and pray for the people on their shopping list. They may then write that person’s name on one of the stars located on a table below the new mosaic in the church’s colonnade.
The stars will be collected each week and brought forward in the offertory during Masses and placed on a tree in the church’s rotunda. The church will be open after Thanksgiving at midnight until 4 p.m. on Friday, then daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

‘Angels in Disguise’ plans Christmas concert at the Brown Theatre Dec. 7
Angels in Disguise, a local non-profit organization that promotes Down syndrome awareness, will host a Country Christmas Concert Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Brown Theatre, 315 W. Broadway.
Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz will deliver the opening address.
The concert will feature Jamie O’Neal and Marie Bellet. Additionally, individuals with Down syndrome as well as students from Immaculata Classical Academy, will participate in a Nativity scene and play various instruments. Tickets for the concert are $20.
The organization, which also helps fund adoptions of children with special needs, aims to change minds and misconceptions that people have regarding those with Down syndrome, a news release from the organization said. Ignite Your Torch, a Catholic youth conference held annually in the Archdiocese of Louisville, has been a partner with Angels in Disguise to sell tickets. Ignite Your Torch will receive a portion of the proceeds from the tickets they sell.
