Charismatic Renewal organizes prayer, fasting for archbishop

The Catholic Charismatic Renewal is organizing prayer for Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, who was diagnosed with cancer recently.
Members of the Charismatic group invite all Catholics to join them in devoting the month of August to his cause. They suggest choosing one day a week in August to pray and fast for the archbishop.

“This is a fitting month in light of the fact that he was installed as Archbishop of Louisville on the 15th of August, the feast of the Assumption,”said Bob Garvey, one of the organizers. “We urge everyone to call upon the Holy Spirit on behalf of the archbishop and to invoke the intercessory prayer of Mary during this month that is saturated with her feast days.”
Those feast days and memorials include: Our Lady of Angels, Aug. 2; Our Lady of Snows, Aug. 5; Our Lady of Mercy, Aug. 10; Coronation of Mary, Aug. 18; Our Lady of Knock Aug. 21; Immaculate Heart of Mary, Aug. 22; Our Lady Health of the Sick, Aug. 24 and Our Lady of Czestochowa, Aug. 26.

Archbisjop Kurtz announced July 10 that he was diagnosed with urothelial carcinoma of the bladder and prostate. He has gone to North Carolina to begin a 12-week treatment plan at the Duke University Cancer Institute.
