Catholic schools win top honors at Governor’s Cup

Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Louisville earned a number of top honors in the 2015 regional Governor’s Cup high school and middle school competitions.

In region 5 high school competition, Bethlehem High School placed third in Future Problem Solving.

In region 6 high school competition, DeSales High School placed third overall. The team also took second place in the Future Problem Solving event.

In region 7 high school competition, St. Xavier High School placed second overall. The team took third place in both the Future Problem Solving and Quick Recall events.

In the individual assessments, Noah Popham of St. X placed first in mathematics.

Mercy Academy won the Hume Sportsmanship Award.

In region 4 middle school competition, St. James School in Elizabethtown, Ky., placed second overall. In the individual assessments, St. James students Alyssa Davis placed first in composition and Carson Ching placed first in social studies.

In region 6 middle school competition, St. Gabriel School placed second overall and St. Nicholas Academy came in third. In the Future Problem Solving event, St. Gabriel placed third. In the Quick Recall event St. Gabriel placed first and St. Nicholas came in second.

In the individual assessments, Conner Wallen of St. Paul School placed first in science; Anthony Miller of St. Nicholas placed first in social studies; and Zoe Peterson of St. Gabriel placed first in language arts.

In region 7 middle school competition, St. Agnes School placed second in Future Problem Solving.

In region 8 middle school competition, Nicholas Pesce of St. Albert the Great School placed first in the social studies assessment.

In region 11, St. Joseph School in Bardstown, Ky., won the Governor’s Cup title. The team also placed first in Quick Recall. In individual assessments, St. Joseph student Noah Surtees placed first in social studies.
