Catholic school children play, pray and serve

Photos Special to The Record

In addition to learning, children around the Archdiocese of Louisville have been playing, praying and doing service since the 2018-2019 school year began. Children, above, served by Community Catholic Center, 3525 Rudd Avenue, took part in a relay game during the center’s fourth Annual Back to School Picnic earlier this month. Families shared a fried chicken dinner and took part in different activities as the school year began. The CCC partners with 14 elementary and high schools in the Archdiocese of Louisville and Southern Indiana to help West End children receive a Catholic education.

Below, right, kindergartner Alyssa Brangers presented her grandmother, Caroline Brangers, with a card at St. James School in Elizabethtown, Ky. The school held a grandparents’ day celebration, which included a Mass and blessing by Father Martin Linebach, pastor of St. James Church.

Below, left, St. Albert the Great seventh-graders, from left, Jacob Tyler, Ethan Das and Elliott Crumbo carried bags of shoes to be donated to WaterStep, which funds safe-drinking-water projects. During a week-long shoe drive the school and parish collected 800 pairs of new and gently used shoes.
