The Kentucky Council of Churches presented an award last month to an ecumenical group that has been engaged in formal dialogue for nearly 40 years.
The Disciples of Christ/Roman Catholic dialogue group received an award for civil discourse — which was also presented to two other groups. The 10 members of the dialogue group began their discussions 38 years ago by learning about the history of the two churches and later delved into more serious — and divisive — issues, an announcement about the award said.
The announcement also explained that despite their careful efforts, dialogue on divisive issues still posed challenges and the group took two years to “do more disciplined listening.”
Group members who accepted the award included Father Joseph Graffis, pastor of St. Edward Church, and the Rev. Sally McClain, retired pastor of Edenside Christian Church.
