Brother Luke Simon, who served at St. Joseph in Butchertown, dies

Franciscan Brother Luke Simon died Nov. 4 at St. Margaret Hall in Cincinnati. He was 90.

Brother Simon, a native of Chicago, was born Donald Frederick. He served in the U.S. Army and worked in the insurance business before entering religious life. He professed first vows in 1961 and solemn vows in 1964.

Brother Simon served in pastoral ministry for 20 years at St. Joseph Church in Butchertown.

He also served in various ministries in Indiana, Ohio and Illinois.

He is survived by his nephews and fellow friars.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Margaret Hall Chapel, 1960 Madison Road, Cincinnati, Ohio, Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the friars’ plot at St. Mary Cemetery in St. Bernard, Ohio.
