Bellarmine to offer free 12-week program for people with diabetes

Bellarmine University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program students and professors will offer “Active Steps for Diabetes,” a free 12-week program for people with Type-2 diabetes who have difficulty exercising due to low endurance, joint pain or poor balance.

Sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays Sept. 3 through Nov. 26 from 10:45 a.m. to noon at Park DuValle Community Health Center, 3015 Wilson Ave.

“Participants will receive free blood sugar, health and physical fitness, and nutrition screenings; diabetes self-management education and an individualized exercise program, and exercise equipment, including an exercise band,” according to an announcement about the event.

Those who wish to participate and are clients of Park Duvall Community Health Center may sign up with their nurses or physicians. Those who are not clients of the health center may contact Lu Ann Muench, scheduler, at 272-8029 or lmuench@bellarmine.edu. Participants are expected to attend at least 19 of the 23 classes.
