BeFriender Hospital Ministry team will host training sessions

archloulogo-wThe next training session for lay Catholics interested in pastoral care ministry at local hospitals will begin June 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Maloney Center, 1200 S. Shelby Street.

The BeFriender Hospital Ministry, sponsored by the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Family Ministries Office, serves Catholic patients at Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital, Jewish Hospital Medical Campus, Baptist Health Louisville and University Hospital.

The training, which runs from June through September, teaches volunteers to provide a “spiritually supportive, non judgmental, listening presence of compassionate care,” according to information from the Family Ministries office.

The training program requires about 40 hours of instruction and formation as well as a hospital shadowing experience.

Volunteers are commissioned to serve for two years at the participating hospital of their choice.

The total cost of the training is $115, which includes all materials. Registration for the information sessions is required. For more information or to register, call 636-0296, ext. 1201.
