Archdiocese celebrates anniversaries 

of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years

Couples celebrating 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years of marriage in 2012 are invited to an Archdiocesan Mass of Thanksgiving, celebrated by Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz.

Family members are also invited to this celebration on Feb. 11 at the 5:30 p.m. liturgy at Holy Family Church, 3926 Poplar Level Road.

A Mass for couples celebrating 30, 40, 50, 60 and more  years will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Assumption on September 30.

To register for the Feb. 11 Mass, couples should call their parish secretary. The registration deadline is Feb. 1.

 

2012 Catholics @ The Capitol

Catholics from across the state are invited to Frankfort, Ky., for “Many Gifts, One Spirit: Catholics @ The Capitol” — a two-day legislative advocacy conference. The guest speaker will be Father Larry Snyder, president of Catholic Charities USA. Father Snyder will deliver a keynote address as part of an evening banquet.

The event takes places Feb. 6-7 at the Capital Plaza Hotel, 405 Wilkinson Boulevard, Frankfort, Ky. Those spending the night can mention “Catholics @ The Capitol” and receive a special room rate of $86 plus tax.

Registration fee, due by Jan. 30, is $40 per person — which includes the banquet and breakfast.

St. X to hold ‘Gala of Giving’

St. Xavier High School’s “Gala of Giving” will be held Feb. 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. in the school gym, 1609 Poplar Level. The annual event supports the school’s educational programs.

During the evening, the school’s St. Francis Xavier Award will be presented to Xavierian Brother Edward Driscoll. Also, a current senior at the school will speak about the impact of tuition assistance.

The event will include a dinner, a silent auction and a drawing for a $40,000-grand prize.

Catholic Schools Week liturgy 

set for Jan. 31 at Holy Trinity

The Archdiocese of Louisville’s annual Catholic School’s Week liturgy will be celebrated Jan. 31 at Holy Trinity Church, 501 Cherrywood Road. The theme of this year’s Jan. 29 to Feb. 4 celebration is “Catholic Schools — Faith. Academics. Service.”

Father J. Mark Spalding, vicar general of the archdiocese, will celebrate the Mass in place of Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz who is in Rome.

Awards to be presented during the liturgy include the archdiocese’s distinguished elementary principal award, the Father Joseph McGee Award given to the year’s outstanding Catholic educator, the Religious Educational Excellence Award and an award to the outstanding school volunteer.

The Catholic Education Foundation also will present awards to students who participated in the Catholic Schools Week poster and essay contest.

If Catholic schools in Jefferson County are closed or delayed because of inclement weather, the liturgy will be cancelled.
