Father Ivo Cecil dies at age 85

Father Ivo E. Cecil, a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Louisville, died Jan. 30 at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, Ky. He was 85 and had been a priest since 1954.
Father Cecil had last served as senior associate at St. Aloysius Church in Shepherdsville, Ky., and held the same position at St. Benedict Church in Lebanon Junction, Ky.
Previously he had served as pastor at St. Augustine Church in Lebanon, St. Christopher Church in Radcliff and Immaculate Conception Church in LaGrange.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 4 at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown. Burial will be in St. Joseph Church Cemetery.

Video series ‘Catholicism’ begins
at St. Louis Bertrand Church

Beginning Feb. 6 at 7 p.m., St. Louis Bertrand Church’s Back to Basics program will host the video series “Catholicism.”
The informational program uses art, architecture, literature and music to provide information about church teaching and history.
The series was filmed in 50 locations throughout 15 countries.

Father Donald Walpole, 94, dies
at Saint Meinrad Archabbey

Benedictine Father Donald Walpole, 94, a monk of Saint Meinrad Archabbey in St. Meinrad, Ind., died Jan. 27. He had been a priest for 68 years and celebrated 71 years of monastic profession.
Father Walpole was a native of Indianapolis, Ind. He professed his simple vows at Saint Meinrad on Aug. 6, 1940 and three years later professed solemn vows. He was ordained to the priesthood in September of 1943.
He served as assistant pastor of St. Benedict Cathedral in Evansville, Ind., and served in the same position at St. Ferdinand Church in Ferdinand, Ind.
After receiving a master of fine arts degree from the Art Institute of Chicago, Father Walpole had a 45-year career of teaching history and art to Saint Meinrad seminary undergraduates. He was also considered a master artist.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 29 at the Archabbey Church, with burial in the Archabbey Cemetery.
