Apple tournament raises money for cancer research

When Sacred Heart Academy hosted the 47th annual Apple Invitation Field Hockey Tournament Aug. 19-26, it raised $5,000 for Twisted Pink — a local charity that funds stage IV metastatic breast cancer research.

During the tournament, Sacred Heart’s freshmen and varsity teams won their divisions. Sixteen varsity teams, 12 junior varsity teams and five freshman teams competed in the tournament.

The invitational is the longest running field hockey tournament in the midwest and the oldest in the nation, according to Sacred Heart.
