SERVICES & DEVOTIONS

The Cathedral of the Assumption, 433 S. Fifth St., is holding a series of events to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States. The final event, an Independence Day Mass, is planned for July 4 at 9:30 a.m., preceding a civic celebration scheduled at the nearby Metro Hall at 11 a.m.

St. Stephen Martyr Church, 2931 Pindell Ave., is holding a celebration for America’s 250th birthday on June 27. The Patriotic Rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m., a Vigil Mass will follow at 4 p.m. and a cookie reception will be held afterward. All are welcome.

A Special Disciples of Jesus Mass will be celebrated on June 28 at 3 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, 7813 Shelbyville Road. Special-needs families and friends are invited to attend the shortened Mass intended for children. A light reception will follow. MISSIONS, RETREATS

St. Meinrad Archabbey in southern Indiana will host a reduced-rate retreat for young adults Aug. 7-9. The retreat, open to adults ages 18-35, will be unstructured, but opportunities for adoration, confession, Mass and spiritual direction will be offered.
The cost is $50 for a single room or $100 for a double room, which includes two nights of lodging and all meals. To register, visit saintmeinrad.org/retreats/young-adult-retreats

Louisville Cursillo will host an Ultreya fellowship event on June 28 at Epiphany Catholic Church, 914 Old Harrods Creek Rd, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Bring a dish to share. For more information, visit louisvillecursillo.org.

HERE AND THERE

The Golden Arrow Center, 835 E. Gray St., is holding a purse and jewelry sale July 11 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and July 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Purses, tote bags, scarves, wallets, jewelry and gift items will be for sale. All money raised will be used to support families served by Golden Arrow.

The Catholic Single Adults Club will host a night out on June 28 for singles 50 and over. It will begin with Putt-Putt at 3 p.m., and dinner at Culver’s will follow at 5 p.m. For more information and locations, call 502-553-1476. 

THE ARTS

St. Louis Bertrand Church, 1126 S. Sixth St., is hosting the Sixth Street Boyz Barbershop Quartet on June 19 at 7 p.m. on the third floor of the parish center. The concert is free. All are welcome.

SUPPORT GROUPS

Ups & Downs, a support group for those dealing with loss, grief, depression and anxiety, meets the first Friday of each month from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Forest Hills Commons Assisted Living Facility, 9107 Taylorsville Road. The group is a ministry of St. Michael Church.

Parents of Addicted Loved Ones (PAL) meets weekly on Sundays from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at St. John Paul II Church, 3525 Goldsmith Lane.

Nourish for Caregivers — a program for those caring for an aging parent, spouse or loved one — meets at St. Margaret Mary Church’s Spirituality Center, 7813 Shelbyville Road, and via Zoom, every second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. The next meeting is July 8. ALUMNI EVENTS

The Flaget Alumni Association’s next meeting and luncheon will be held July 8 at noon in the Flaget H.S. Museum located in the Flaget Retreat Center, 1935 Lewiston Drive. Holy Rosary Academy’s class of 1976 will hold a 50-year reunion on July 18 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Rooster’s Restaurant, 5338 Bardstown Road. Interested alumnae who have not been contacted are asked to reach out to Barbara Heeb Smith at smith2660@bellsouth.net.

EDUCATION & ENRICHMENT

The Office of Worship will offer Communion Minister Formation for those preparing to serve as extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion and for those presently serving who need to renew their mandate. The next formation session will be held on June 22 from 10 a.m. to noon at Mary Queen of Peace Church, 4005 Dixie Highway.

The Adult Christian Enrichment Program of St. Bernadette Church offers a series of classes via Zoom on Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and again on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

  • July 2 and 3: On Divine justice
  • July 9 and 10: On Death

A Bible study led by Father Joe Rankin will be held at 6:30 p.m. on June 23 at St. Rita Church, 8709 Preston Highway. The topic is, “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me.”

The Community Education Series at Nazareth Home will host its next event on June 24 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Highlands Campus Chapel, 2000 Newburg Road. 
Sheri Rose will discuss “innovation that sustains health and well-being.”
