The following is a listing of Catholic community events in central Kentucky.

SERVICES & DEVOTIONS

The Cathedral of the Assumption, 433 S. Fifth St., will hold a Vigil Mass in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at 6:30 p.m. on June 11, when the U.S. bishops will consecrate the United States to the Sacred Heart.
The Mass is part of a trio of events that the Cathedral has planned to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States. The final event, an Independence Day Mass, is planned for July 4 at 9:30 a.m., preceding a civic celebration scheduled at the nearby Metro Hall at 11 a.m.

Catholic Charismatic Renewal will host a praise and worship evening on May 28 at St. Margaret Mary Church, 7813 Shelbyville Road. It will begin with praise and worship at 6:15 p.m. with Dr. Holly Smith, followed by the Mass of the Holy Spirit at 7 p.m., celebrated by Father Bill Hammer. All are invited. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Catholic Charities of Louisville needs volunteers to help support an array of programs. Childcare volunteers for the Mama Matters Program are needed from May 27 to July 31. Two adults and two teenagers (14 years or older) are needed for each shift at the agency’s main office, 435 E. Broadway.

The American Red Cross is planning a blood drive on May 29 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the gym at St. John Paul II Church, 3539 Goldsmith Lane. The drive is held in honor of Kaitlyn Clements, an altar server and member of the parish who has leukemia. 

ALUMNI EVENTS

Holy Rosary Academy’s class of 1976 will hold a 50-year reunion on July 18 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Rooster’s Restaurant, 5338 Bardstown Road. Interested alumnae who have not been contacted are asked to reach out to Barbara Heeb Smith at smith2660@bellsouth.net.

Saint Xavier High School, 1609 Poplar Level Rd., invites alumni from the graduating classes of ‘61, ‘71, ‘81, ‘91, ‘96, ‘06 and ‘16 to attend respective class reunions on June 13. HERE AND THERE

A Walking Tour of St. Louis Cemetery, 1167 Barret Avenue, will be presented on May 31 and will be repeated on June 7 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The tour guides will be Steve Wiser, president of the Louisville Historical League, and Tim Tomes, archivist for the Archdiocese of Louisville. 
The tours are free, but donations to the William and Margaret Keely Headstone Fund are appreciated.

The St. Serra Club of Louisville, which promotes religious vocations, will hold its next luncheon meeting at 11:30 a.m. June 1 at Golden Corral, 4032 Taylorsville Road. 
Deacon Ned Berghausen will be the speaker.

The Ladies of Good Shepherd will hold their Card Party for a Cause on June 9 at Lehmann Hall, 3525 Rudd Avenue. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. Admission is $8 per person and includes lunch and a door prize drawing ticket. All are invited to attend. Half of the proceeds will benefit Franciscan Kitchen. SUPPORT GROUPS

Parents of Addicted Loved Ones (PAL) meets weekly on Sundays from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at St. John Paul II Church, 3525 Goldsmith Lane.

EDUCATION & ENRICHMENT

The Adult Christian Enrichment Program of St. Bernadette Church is offering a series of classes via Zoom. The programs will be offered on Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and again on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The next class, to be presented by Deacon Jim Shields, will be offered May 28 and 29 on “Sirach: On the Cultivation of Virtue.”

The Community Education Series at Nazareth Home will host its next event May 27 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Highlands Campus Chapel, 2000 Newburg Road. 
Caitlin Kidd and Justin Magnuson will present “Estate and Advance care planning.” Attendees will be offered a better understanding of legal, financial, and care planning considerations, along with guidance on how to start conversations and make informed decisions that support long-term peace of mind.

The death penalty in Kentucky is the subject of a program to be presented on May 28 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Dominican Sisters of Peace St. Catharine Hall in St. Catharine, Ky. The presentation will be given by Russell Allen, executive director of the Kentucky Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty. To register or for more information, call 859-336-9303.

The Archdiocese of Louisville Ministry Institute will offer a variety of faith formation classes this summer at the Maloney Center, 1200 S. Shelby St., unless otherwise noted.
