Just a week into the new school year, St. Nicholas Academy, 5501 New Cut Road, has been the victim of a burglary.
An unidentified individual allegedly entered St. Nicholas’ Gillen Building and stole Chromebooks, iPads and other accessories from the school library. School security cameras captured the theft.
In total, 30 Chromebooks, 15 iPads, numerous chargers, headphones, microphones and speakers were taken.
The school reported that the Louisville Metro Police Department is investigating. Catholic Mutual, the school’s insurance company, is expected to cover the cost to replace the items.
St. Nicholas principal Kathy DeLozier said another Catholic school, Notre Dame Academy, 1927 Lewiston Drive, has offered to lend St. Nicholas technology items they may need.
Primary students are scheduled to begin a new type of testing next week, known as MAP testing, that test requires the use of computers.
DeLozier said staff from the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Catholic Schools have offered to visit when the new computers arrive to download software and input data in order to be ready for student use.
“If there is a blessing in any of this, it has been the response of students, the police, the insurance agents and our fellow Catholic educators,” DeLozier added.
