‘Care for creation’ events planned

Record Staff Report

The Creation Care Team at St. James and St. Brigid churches will host a series of events in September to promote care for the environment.

The events will have a double focus — the “throwaway culture” and the “changing climate,” an announcement from the parishes said.

Sept. 13 — A documentary film will be shown on Beargrass Creek at 7 p.m. at the Goetz Center at St. Brigid Church, 1520 Hepburn Avenue.

Sept. 22 — Individuals will clean up the greenway of Beargrass Creek along Lexington Road from 9 a.m. to noon. Metro Parks and the Kentucky Waterways Alliance will provide gloves, bags, loppers and water. Wear long sleeves and pants. Park at the Girl Scouts Office.

Sept. 27 — “Before the Flood,” a film on the changing climate will be shown at 7 p.m. at St. Brigid’s Goetz Center.

And, reusable grocery bags with tips for living with less plastic and styrofoam will be available for free at both parishes. Donations will be accepted. The Creation Care Team also offers several tips for using less plastic and styrofoam:

  Bring your own reusable bags

  Carry a reusable water bottle

Pack your lunch in reusable containers

Say no to plastic straws, plates and utensils

   Skip the plastic produce bags

  Store leftovers in glass jars

Say no to styrofoam carryout containers.
