Culture, heritage celebrated on refugee day

Congolese refugees Anatazia Useni, Jean Chele, John Bizimana, Virginie Kalwaye and Anna Mwavita, from left, shared a laugh with Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz during a celebration of World Refugee Day June 21 at Catholic Charities’ St. Anthony campus on West Market Street. Below, other members of the refugee community, including children, take part in the festivities of the day. Archbishop Kurtz prayed during the opening of the event that each person would be the “force for the difference that brings out the dignity of the human family.” The annual celebration, sponsored by Catholic Charities Migration and Refugee Services office, featured international foods and performances by various refugees. Other speakers at the event included Mayor Greg Fischer and Rep. Jim Wayne.
