Students at Holy Trinity School, 423 Cherrywood Road, collected close to 4,000 canned and boxed food items as part of the school’s “Scare Out Hunger” initiative during the end of October.
The food items benefited those served by Catholic Charities of Louisville’s Sister Visitor Center and Common Earth garden program, St. Vincent de Paul food pantry and Dare to Care food bank.
The seventh-grade class delivered the items on Oct. 31 during their first mission service day.
A team of 65 students, six teachers and administrators and parent volunteers took part in the mission service day.
Together they completed 355 hours of service including helping to harvest vegetables from Common Earth gardens, sorted and packed 10,000 pounds of meat at Dare to Care food bank, tutored ESL students at the Migration and Refugee Services Office, prepared meals at St. Vincent de Paul Open Hand Kitchen and sorted clothing and food donations at St. Vincent de Paul’s food pantry and clothing closet.
