Students win National Merit scholarships

Four Catholic high school students were awarded National Merit $2,500 scholarships by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. This is one of several types of scholarships awarded in the program.

The winners are:

  •  Trinity High School — Jeremy Borden, Samuel McCalpin and Phillip Sandman.
  • St. Xavier High School — Thomas Ostertag.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition and selects 15,000 finalists each year. Approximately 7,500 finalists will receive scholarships, according to a statement from the organization.
