Parishioners thanked for support of elderly religious

Representatives of the Retirement Fund for Religious (RFR) offered thanks to the Archdiocese of Louisville in a letter dated April 9 for its support over the years. The archdiocese takes an annual special collection for the fund.

Parishioners gave $112,732 for retired religious during the 2014 collection, the organization reported in the letter. In the last 26 years, parishioners in the archdiocese have donated more than $4 million dollars — a total of $4,428,460 — to the collection, the letter said.

The office has distributed more than $608 million for the care of elderly religious since 1989, the letter reported. It said that more than 34,000 women and men religious currently benefit from the collection.
