40 Days for Life vigil held during Lent

Chelsea Pickett, left, and her 19-month-old son Braylon shared a smile with Laura Grijalba outside the EMW Women’s Surgical Center March 29 during the 40 Days for Life vigil. Grijalba coordinates the local 40 Days for Life campaign, which holds vigils in the fall and Lent each year outside the center on West Market Street. Parishioners are urged to sign up for a shift at www.40daysforlife.com/louisville. Pickett leads a group called Moms With a Plan, a program meant to encourage single mothers. Pickett met Grijalba when she was pregnant and lacked a support system and Grijalba was there to assist. Grijalba said 40 Days for Life is about bringing hope to women, to “be the hands and feet of Christ.” (Record Photo by Jessica Able)
