St. Michael marks history

St. Michael Church in Fairfield, Ky., which is celebrating its 225th anniversary this year, dedicated historical markers on Sept. 17 that mark the original location of the historic parish and the parish cemetery. The markers note that St. Michael was the parish home of Mother Catherine Spalding, foundress of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, and that Father Stephen Badin, the first priest ordained in the U.S., was the first priest to serve the parish.
