Pastors, administrators appointed

Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz has made the following appointments, effective June 20, unless otherwise noted:

Reverend William M. Bowling is to be pastor of Holy Trinity and Holy Name churches. Father Bowling’s assignment as pastor of St. Augustine in Lebanon, Ky., and Holy Name of Mary in Calvary, Ky., will end on June 20.

Father Bowling, a native of Louisville, studied at St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology, St. Meinrad, Ind. He was ordained on May 24, 1997.

He has served as the coordinator for Hispanic ministry and Formation for Priests in the First Five Years. He has also served as vocation director. He has also been involved with Mass of the Air, chaplain for the Catholic Committee on Scouting, Priest Council (Region 9 Representative and appointed member), Centro Latino board of directors, Priestly Life & Ministry Committee, Presbyteral Assembly Planning Committee and a St. Meinrad Institute for Priests & Presbyterates board member.

Since his ordination, Father Bowling also has been assigned to the following parishes: Annunciation in Shelbyville, Ky., St. John Chrysostom in Eminence, Ky., and St. Pius X.

Reverend Nicholas J. Brown is to be pastor of St. Bartholomew Church. Father Brown’s assignment as pastor of Holy Spirit in Jamestown, Ky., and Holy Redeemer and Good Shepherd churches in Columbia, Ky., will end on June 20.

Father Brown, born in Louisville, studied at St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology. He was ordained on May 25, 2013.

Since his ordination, Father Brown has been assigned at the following parishes: St. Ambrose in Cecilia, Ky., Holy Trinity, St. Ignatius in White Mills, Ky., and St. James in Elizabethtown, Ky. He has also served on the pro-life committee.

Reverend Paul W. Eve is to be pastor of St. Athanasius Church. Father Eve’s assignment as administrator pro-tempore of St. Bartholomew will end on June 20.

Father Eve, born in Frankfort, Ky., studied at St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology. He was ordained on May 22, 1982.

Since his ordination, Father Eve also has been assigned at the following parishes: St. Aloysius in Pewee Valley, Ky., Ascension, St. Athanasius, St. Barnabas, St. Brigid, Good Shepherd in Columbia, St. Gregory, Holy Redeemer, Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit in Jamestown, St. James, Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Patrick and St. Raphael. He also served in sacramental ministry at St. Patrick and Baptist Hospital East. He served as chaplain for Assumption High School, Spalding University and the University of Louisville Football Team. He also served as campus minister for the University of Louisville.

Reverend Mark M. Hamilton is to be pastor of St. Augustine Church in Lebanon, Ky., and Holy Name of Mary Church in Calvary, Ky. Father Hamilton’s assignment as pastor of St. Martha will end on June 20.

Father Hamilton, born in Lebanon, Ky., studied at Pontifical North American College, Rome. He was ordained on August 24, 1994.
Father Hamilton serves as the Ecumenical and Interfaith officer for the Archdiocese of Louisville. He has also served as co-chaplain for Assumption High School, chaplain for Bethlehem High School in Bardstown, and taught at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, Mich.

He has continued his theology studies through the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. Father Hamilton has also served in the Archdiocese of Detroit.

Since his ordination, Father Hamilton also has been assigned at the following parishes: Annunciation in Shelbyville, St. Barnabas, St. Bernard in Clementsville, Ky., St. Catherine in New Haven, Ky., Immaculate Conception in Culvertown, Ky., Sacred Heart in Liberty, Ky., and St. Joseph in Bardstown.

Reverend Matthew T. Hardesty is to be pastor of St. Catherine Church in New Haven, Immaculate Conception Church in Culvertown and St. Vincent de Paul Church in New Hope, Ky. Father Hardesty’s assignment as pastor of Holy Trinity in Fredericktown, Ky., and Holy Rosary in Manton, Ky., will end on June 20.

Father Hardesty, born in Owensboro, Ky., studied at St. Mary’s Seminary & University in Baltimore. He was ordained on May 28, 2011.

Father Hardesty serves as the Archdiocesan Marian Committee director and assistant to the vicar for priests. He also serves as chaplain for the local Courage chapter.

Since his ordination, Father Hardesty also has been assigned at the following parishes: St. Ambrose in Cecilia, Ky., St. Ignatius in White Mills and St. James in Elizabethtown.

Reverend James Jason Harris is to be pastor of St. Monica in Bardstown while continuing as pastor of St. Thomas Church in Bardstown and as chaplain of Bethlehem High School.

Father Harris, a native of Owensboro, studied at the Theological College/Catholic University, Washington, D.C. He was ordained on May 30, 2015.

Since ordination, Father Harris has been assigned at the following parishes: the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown, St. Michael in Fairfield, Ky., and St. Thomas.

 

Reverend Pablo A. Hernandez is to be pastor of St. Ann Church in Howardstown, Ky., while continuing as pastor of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Hodgenville, Ky.

Father Hernandez, born in El Salvador, studied at St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology. He was ordained on Aug. 12, 2006.

Since ordination, Father Hernandez also has been assigned to the following parishes: St. Augustine in Lebanon, Holy Name of Mary and St. Joseph in Bardstown.

 

 

Reverend Christopher B. Lubecke is to be pastor of St. Peter the Apostle Church. Father Lubecke’s assignment as pastor of St. Catherine in New Haven and Immaculate Conception in Culvertown will end on June 20.

Father Lubecke, born in Milwaukee, Wis., studied at St. Mary’s Seminary & University in Baltimore. He was ordained on May 25, 2013.

Since ordination, Father Lubecke also has served at the following parishes: St. Albert the Great and Holy Trinity.

 

 

Reverend Charles D. Walker is to be pastor of St. Augustine, Christ the King, Immaculate Heart of Mary, and St. Martin de Porres churches while continuing as pastor of Good Shepherd. Father Walker’s assignment as pastor of St. Peter the Apostle will end on June 20, 2018.

Father Walker, born in Loretto, Ky., studied at St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology. He was ordained on May 30, 1981.
He has served as co-chaplain for Mercy Academy and chaplain for Catholic Campus Ministry at the University of Louisville while in residence at Our Mother of Sorrows.

Since ordination, Father Walker also has served at the following parishes: St. Ambrose, the former St. Clement, Emmanuel in Albany, Ky., Holy Cross in Burkesville, Ky., St. Ignatius in White Mills, St. James in Elizabethtown, St. Mildred in Somerset, Ky., SS. Peter and Paul in Danville, Ky., St. Pius X, the former St. Polycarp, and St. Raphael.

Reverend Luder Wilfredo Fernandez is to be administrator of Christ the Healer Church in Edmonton, Ky., and Christ the King Church in Tompkinsville, Ky. Father Fernandez’s assignment as associate pastor of Holy Trinity and Holy Name will end on June 20.

Father Fernandez, born in Bolivia, studied at Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology in Hales Corners, Wis. He was ordained May 28, 2016.

Since ordination, Father Fernandez also has served at the following parishes: St. Joseph in Bardstown and St. Michael in Fairfield.

 

 

Reverend Michael C. Martin is to be administrator of Holy Trinity in Fredericktown and Holy Rosary in Manton. Father Martin’s assignment as associate pastor of St. Augustine in Lebanon and Holy Name of Mary in Calvary will end on June 20.

Father Martin, born in Indianapolis, studied at Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology. He was ordained on May 27, 2017.

 

 

 

Reverend Joseph Thomas Kanavallil, C.M.I., coming from the Diocese of Knoxville, is to be administrator of Good Shepherd in Columbia, Holy Redeemer in Greensburg and Holy Spirit in Jamestown.

 

 

 

 

 

Reverend Seejo Thandiackal, C.M.I. is to be administrator of St. Martha. Father Thandiackal’s assignment as associate pastor of St. Bernadette will end on June 20.

Father Thandiackal, born in Kallettumkara, Kerala, India, studied at St. Aloysius College, Elthuruth, Thrissur, India. He was ordained on December 28, 2004.

Since arriving in the Archdiocese of Louisville, Father Thandiackal has served at St. Bernadette Church.

 

Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz also made the following appointments, effective June 20, unless otherwise noted:

Reverend Albert Clyde Añover was appointed associate pastor of St. Albert the Great Church, effective April 2.

Rev. Mr. Robert D. Barnell, who will be ordained to the priesthood on May 26, to be associate pastor of St. Bartholomew Church.

Reverend Febin Barose, C.P., to be associate pastor of St. Agnes Church, effective May 9.

Very Reverend R. Paul Beach to be re-appointed as pastor of St. Martin of Tours Church.

Reverend Benedict J. Brown is re-appointed as administrator of St. Ambrose Church in Cecilia, Ky., and St. Ignatius Church in White Mills, Ky.

Reverend Peter Bucalo to be pastor of Mary Queen of Peace Church.

Reverend Gary G. Davis will retire from St. Athanasius Church.

Rev. Mr. Brandon T. DeToma, who will be ordained to the priesthood on May 26, to be associate pastor of St. Bernadette Church.

Reverend Shibu P. Devassykutty, C.M.I., is to be associate pastor of St. Gabriel Church. Father Devassykutty was previously assigned as associate pastor of St. Margaret Mary Church.

Reverend Shayne R. Duvall to be pastor of St. Raphael.

Reverend Trumie C. “Pepper” Elliott will complete his service as pastor but will continue as administrator of St. Dominic Church in Springfield, Ky., for one year.

Reverend Jonathan Erdman to be associate pastor of St. Margaret Mary Church. Father Erdman’s assignment as associate pastor of St. Martin of Tours will end on June 20. Father Erdman also has responsibilities to Most Reverend Steve Lopes for the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter.

Rev. Mr. David Joseph Farrell, who will be ordained to the priesthood on May 26, to be associate pastor of St. Augustine Church in Lebanon, Ky., and Holy Name of Mary Church in Calvary, Ky.

Reverend Kenneth R. Fortener will retire from St. Ann Church in Howardstown, Ky., and St. Vincent de Paul in New Hope, Ky.

Reverend Thomas Gentile is to be administrator pro-tempore of St. Paul Church, effective immediately until June 20, while Reverend Dismas Veeneman, OFM Conv. is recuperating.

Father Gentile will also be assisting as senior associate beginning June 20 at St. Augustine, Christ the King, Good Shepherd, Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Martin de Porres churches.

Reverend John T. Judie to retire from Christ the King and Immaculate Heart of Mary churches.

Reverend Steephen Koola, C.M.I., to be pastor of Sts. Simon and Jude and Most Blessed Sacrament churches.

Reverend Sean D. McKinley to be associate pastor of St. Aloysius Church in Pewee Valley, Ky. Father McKinley’s assignment as associate pastor of St. Gabriel will end on June 20.

Rev. Br. Victor Moratin, C.P.M., who will be ordained to the priesthood on June 2, is to be associate pastor of St. Helen Church in Glasgow, Ky., and Our Lady of the Caves Church in Horse Cave, Ky., effective June 18. Rev. Br. Moratin replaces Father Thomas Reagan, C.P.M.

Rev. Mr. Kien Nguyen, who will be ordained to the priesthood on May 26, to be associate pastor of Holy Trinity and Holy Name churches.

Reverend George Otuma, A.J., is to be pastor of St. Bernard Church in Clementsville, Ky., and Sacred Heart Church in Liberty, Ky.

Reverend Deogratias Ssamba, A.J., is to be associate pastor of St. Augustine, Christ the King, Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Martin de Porres churches, while continuing as associate pastor of Good Shepherd. Father Ssamba’s assignment as associate pastor of St. Peter the Apostle will end on June 20.

Reverend Cornelius Kayemba Ssewante is to be sacramental moderator of  Christ the Healer in Edmonton and Christ the King in Tompkinsville, effective immediately through June 1.

Reverend J. Richard Sullivan will complete his service as pastor but will continue as administrator of St. Michael for one year.

Reverend Conrad J. Sutter will complete his term on June 20 as sacramental moderator of St. Augustine and St. Martin de Porres churches.

Deacon James R. Turner will retire from St. Augustine and St. Martin de Porres as pastoral administrator and will continue as an active deacon in the Archdiocese.

Rev. Mr. Minh Vu, who will be ordained to the priesthood on May 26, is to be associate pastor of the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown.
