Mercy is the theme for 2016 short film contest

Goodness Reigns, a local non-profit organization, invites all aspiring and experienced filmmakers to submit entries to the organization’s “Share the Story” 2016 Short Film Contest.

The theme of the contest — mercy — is a nod to the Jubilee Year of Mercy, currently being celebrated throughout the Catholic Church.

Goodness Reigns promotes the sharing and creation of faith-based media and art, according to a news release from the organization.

Contest winners in three categories will receive prizes of $1,000 each. All films must be less than seven minutes long. Submissions are due by midnight on June 1.

The contest categories are:

Filmmakers are invited to explore the theme of mercy in one of the following ways: documentary, drama, creative presentations or a music video.

Submissions will be judged for creativity and how they appeal both to young people and a secular audience. Judging will be open to the public during the people’s choice voting period in July.
