Churches to host ecumenical service for World Day of Prayer

Twenty-three churches in the Louisville area will host ecumenical services commemorating the World Day of Prayer on March 6 and 7.

The World Day of Prayer is a “worldwide ecumenical movement of Christian women of many traditions who come together to observe a common day of prayer each year on the first Friday in March,” a news release from the local chairperson said.

The release said that each host church invites 10-25 churches in its surrounding area to help plan, lead and attend its World Day of Prayer service.

Churches hosting services this year are:

March 6 at 10 a.m. — Fern Creek United Methodist, 6727 Bardstown Rd.

March 6 at 10:30 a.m. — Most Blessed Sacrament, 3509 Taylor Blvd.; Tabernacle Missionary Baptist, 714 S. Shelby St.; Highland United Methodist, 1140 Cherokee Rd.; Buechel United Methodist, 2817 Hikes Ln.; and Highland Park Missionary Baptist, 3700 Shanks Ln.

March 6 at 11 a.m. — St. Athanasius, 5915 Outer Loop; Crescent Hill United Methodist, 201 S. Peterson Ave.; First Baptist Anchorage, 11500 La Grange Rd.; Emmanuel Baptist, 3815 W. Broadway; and Crestwood Baptist, 6400 Sweetbay Dr., Crestwood.

March 6 at noon — Hughlett Temple AME Zion, 2115 Jefferson St.

March 6 at 6 p.m. — Walnut Street Baptist, 1101 S. 3rd St.; Peace Presbyterian, 4210 East Indian Trail; First Baptist of Jeffersontown, 10600 Watterson Trail; Brown Temple AME Zion, 3707 Young Ave.; and Southern Star Baptist, 2304 Algonquin Pkwy.

March 7 at 10 a.m. — Audubon Baptist, 1046 Hess Ln., and Genesis United Methodist, 300 N. 42nd St.

March 7 at 10:30 a.m. — Beargrass Christian, 3100 Shelbyville Rd.; New Salem Baptist, 6408 Bethany Ln.; and Briargate Presbyterian, 2100 Upper Hunters Trace.

March 7 at 11 a.m. — St. Thomas Episcopal, 9616 Westport Rd.
