Blanket Louisville’s annual collection of new and gently used blankets has yielded about 5,000 blankets this season. The blankets will be delivered to local homeless shelters, Catholic Charities’ Migration and Refugee Services, St. John Vianney Church for use by the Americana Apartments community and to the Cathedral of the Assumption’s daily lunch program.
Kathy Fehder, director of Blanket Louisville, said donations for the project came primarily from Catholic schools.
“Blanket Louisville is predominantly supported by the wonderful Catholic school community, including Bellarmine University, as well as Sts. Mary and Elizabeth and Jewish Hospitals,” Fehder said in an email message, noting that some public schools also have collected blankets. “St. Raphael was the leader among all Catholic elementary and high schools and Bellarmine collected almost 700 (a leader among universities).”
Fehder said the organization plans to have another collection in January and donors are welcome to drop off donations at Plant Kingdom, 4101 Westport Road. Donors who collect large numbers of blankets also may contact the organization for pick-up.
