A Bethlehem High School graduate and former parishioner of a Bardstown, Ky., parish made her first profession of vows late last month as a Dominican Sister of Saint Cecilia in Nashville, Tenn.
Sister Mary Eileen Manion, daughter of Francis and Mary Manion, professed the simple vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, according to a news release from her congregation.
The congregation of the Dominican Sisters of Saint Cecilia was established in Nashville in 1860. The community, dedicated to Catholic education, has 280 sisters serving in 33 schools throughout the United States. The congregation also has mission houses in Australia, Canada and Scotland and a house of studies in Washington, D.C.
Twelve young women made their first profession of vows July 25 during the Mass for the Rite of First Religious Profession at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Nashville. In addition, 11 young women professed perpetual vows on July 22.
Sister Manion was formerly a member of the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown. After graduating from Bethlehem High School, she attended the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas, where she studied theology.
Currently, Sister Manion is preparing for the teaching apostolate at Aquinas College in Nashville.
