Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz greeted his staff at the Archdiocese of Louisville Pastoral Center during a luncheon to welcome him home Oct. 22.
The archbishop was diagnosed with urothelial carcinoma of the bladder and prostate earlier this year and has been receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy in North Carolina since this summer.
“Sickness is perhaps the clearest reminder for us to pray for each other and to give thanks to God for the gift of life,” he said at the luncheon, noting that he is grateful to those who are praying for him.
Archbishop Kurtz will be home for the next few weeks and will return to North Carolina next month for planned surgery to remove the bladder and prostate. The surgery is scheduled for Nov. 11 at the Duke Cancer Institute.
