Social justice presentation
A series of presentations on social justice, designed by Assumption High School students, will be held at the school beginning Sept. 15.
The series is intended to educate adults on issues of social justice, a news release from the school said.
The first event is titled “The Environment: What is hurting the environment and what can we do about it?” It will be held on Sept. 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the school’s Humana Foundation Performing and Fine Arts Center, 2170 Tyler Lane.
Tim Darst, the executive director of Kentucky Interfaith Power and Light, will be the presenter.
The second presentation will be held at the school Sept. 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Dr. Gulalai Wali Khan, a refugee from Pakistan, will present “Immigration: What is life like for refugees entering the U.S. and what are we as Christians called to do?”
The final event will be Oct. 20 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the performing arts center. The title of the talk is “Education for Girls Around the World: What struggles do girls encounter as they strive to go to school and how can we help all girls globally get an education?”
The film “GirlRising” will be shown. This film tells the stories of nine girls each from a different country and their quest to go to school, the release said.
Each event is free and open to the public.
Eagle Scout
William Tobbe, a senior at St. Xavier High School, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. Tobbe is a member of Troop 346 of St. Gabriel the Archangel Church.
For his Eagle Scout Leadership Project, Tobbe completed two projects at the nature play area at Jefferson Memorial Forest. He landscaped the boundaries of the area with plants native to Kentucky including winterberries and St. John’s Wort. Additionally, Tobbe also constructed a cedar boundary along the sidewalk to contain the mulch and an entryway.
