Soldier send-off

Soldiers from the 101st airborne division at Ft. Campbell visited St. Edward School for a send-off prayer and breakfast Oct. 22. The group of about 15 soldiers are returning to Afghanistan later this month for a nine-month deployment.
Since 2003 students, faculty and staff at St. Edward have completed more than 115 projects to support the troops as part of the school’s Operation Support Peace program.

Ballet

Ruthie Belza, a student at St. Francis of Assisi School, 1938 Alfresco Place, was chosen to perform with the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Belza performed in the ballet “Gloria” at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts on Oct. 20.
Belza also is a student at the Louisville Ballet School. She will dance in the school’s Brown-Forman “Nutcracker” for a third time.

Theater

  • Presentation Academy’s Top Hat Theatre will present “Bye Bye Birdie” Nov. 2, 3, 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 3 and 10 at 2 p.m.Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students.   • Assumption High School will present the Broadway musical “West Side Story” on Nov. 2, 3, 8 and 9 at 7 p.m.; Nov. 4 and 10 at 2 p.m.; and Nov. 7 at 10 a.m.
    Tickets are $9 for students and seniors and $14 for adults and can be purchased at the door or preordered at ahsrockets.org.
    Due to the mature nature of the performance, the school suggests audience members should be at least 10 years old.
