Xaverian Brother John Hart, 92, dies

XaverianBrotherslogo-11-5-15-wXaverian Brother John T. (Capistran) Hart, 92, died Oct. 28 at Nazareth Home. He had been a Xaverian for 74 years.
Brother Hart, a native of Brookline, Mass., served in education in New York, Massachusetts, Kentucky, South Dakota, Kenya and Uganda.

In the Archdiocese of Louisville, he taught at St. Xavier High School.

He also served as treasurer of the Xaverian Generalate in London. He retired in 2010 and moved to Ryken House, the retirement community for the Xaverians on St. Xavier’s campus.

He is survived by his brothers Charles and Frank and his sister Patt, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Brother Hart donated his body to the University of Louisville Medical School. There was no wake or funeral. A memorial Mass will be celebrated in the St. Xavier High School Chapel, 1607 Poplar Level Road, on Nov. 7 at 11 a.m., followed by a reception in Ryken House.

When the University of Louisville releases the cremated remains of Brother Hart, they will be buried in the Xaverian Cemetery on the St. Xavier campus in a private ceremony.
