World Day of Prayer to be marked at 26 local churches March 7, 8

Twenty-six churches around the Louisville area will host services to mark the World Day of Prayer on March 7 and 8.

The World Day of Prayer was established by an “ecumenical movement of Christian women who come together to observe a common day of prayer each year on the first Friday of March,” a media release from the local chairperson said.

Each year, a committee from a different country plans the day’s service. This year’s service was created by women on the World Day of Prayer (WDP) Egypt Committee.

They invite participants to “search out streams in the desert, finding living water in our world,” said chairperson Genny Scheldorf. “Exploring the story of Jesus’ conversation with a Samaritan woman at the well, the women of WDP Egypt call us to bridge those things that divide us and to find unexpected results. From this process, advocacy opportunities emerge — clean water, girls’ education, intergenerational and multi-faith dialogue.”
